In Alberta, small business is booming. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business’s (CFIB) newly-released list of Canada’s top entrepreneurial cities is dominated by Albertan cities: Grande Prairie took first place, and the top 10 is rounded out by Lloydminster, Red Deer, Edmonton and Lethbridge. Calgary, meanwhile, topped the list for entrepreneurial presence in a big city.
It’s a good time to celebrate that success, too. This week is the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) Small Business Week, and incidentally, Alberta Venture released its small business issue earlier this month. With that in mind, it makes now a perfect time to introduce Starting Small, Alberta Venture’s blog about small business and startups in Alberta.
Starting this week, we’re launching a series on startups in Edmonton and Calgary. Over the next several months, we’ll follow a handful of startups in both cities, with a new post about one of those businesses every Wednesday. You’ll find out what they’re up to, the challenges they’re dealing with and what they’re doing to (hopefully) grow and succeed.
That’s in addition to our other regular content, which will include links and news, as well as Q&As with business owners, book reviews and commentary on issues facing the small business and startup communities. We’ll be updating at least twice every week, and we hope you’ll join us.
Have something you want to see on the blog? Don’t hesitate to e-mail me: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coming up on Wednesday: Get to know PlanHero, one of the startups we’ll be following in the months to come.Related
